Title: Li'L Monkey - discontinued yarn :(
Post by: Kari22 on November 20, 2008, 03:14:03 PM
I've looked EVERYWHERE for Bernat Denim Style Rodeo Tan. It's been discontinued. Does anyone know a decent substitute for this?

there is someone on ravelry that has several skeins of that discontinued yarn in their stash. (for sale) if you are a member you can buy the yarn you are in need of.
I hope that helps..    :)

If that doesn't work out,....you're going to have to substitute. Either the same brand, but a different color choice, or a different brand altogether. And that is probably going to require some digging. Remember, you want to try and stay in the same fiber content/weight/gauge family if you can. For bernat, this means  70% acrylic, 30% soft cotton blend/worsted (medium) weight/18 st to 4 inch gauge.

Use the yarndex (http://www.yarndex.com) as a starting point; with that you can find at least some brands of yarn that fit the same gauge as the bernat. good luck!

I would like this info, too.  Maybe I'm too picky but I can't seem to find a pretty enough substitute!

I was just as disappointed as you were to discover that the Rodeo Tan has been discontinued.  I looked all over and finally found an acceptable substitute.  I am currently making this project with Lion Brand Homespun in Shaker.  It's a multi-colored yarn with white, gray, and a little brown.  I thought this would work well to match the Sock Monkey, and am pleased with how it is working out.  I also used their Candy Apple for the red, and it looks real nice against the Shaker.
