I'm so afraid I'll break wooden needles. I knit with a very tight tension, play with my needles a lot, stick them in random places, and have to steal them back from my SO who likes to play with them while watching TV. Plus I'm broke and cheap and aluminum ones are more affordable.

But I LOVE the knitpicks Harmony needles and want them soooo bad!!!

I used to be 100% bamboo, then I got some Addi Turbos, and the KnitPicks Options set, and now I don't knit with anything else.  Well, I lied, my US 9's from KP were in use, so I bought one pair of straight wooden needles from SWTC at a knit night to knit a Xmas gift with, and they are not too bad, but in general, I will use my Options for straight or circular knitting.  No dpn's here anymore either since I learned to knit socks on 2 circs!

I like bamboo for straight single points, and metal for sock needle dpns because they go everywhere with me and don't break like bamboo does if they get sat on or something. I do like Addi turbos, too, for circulars. You can fly with Addis!

I use the few mismatched inherited straights i have from time to time, which come in all different kinds of materials, mostly wood and aluminum straights. But, i've come to prefer the Boye Needlemaster kit my boyfriend bought for me on Ebay. I know it's not everyone's favorite, the biggest complaint being the needles comming loose, but it works for me. I just make sure the suckers are on tight using the key and the little rubber grippy thing, and just go. I tend to only work on one project at a time right now (haven't tackled anything particularly huge--like a sweater--yet), so i just leave the needle tips attached to the cable, and stuck in my ball or skein when not working on it.

I have had the loose needle problem once (and dropped an entire row of stitches as a result), but i hadn't used the key or grippy either, so i likely just didn't screw it on tight enough myself. My fault.  Roll Eyes

I love an aluninum Boye crochet hook.

Aluminum crochet hooks are good, but I like the plastic ones by Susan Bates. I find that they don't slip from my hand, the way most aluminum hooks do. And I find the yarn just glides off the hook.

So, i lost out on the 7" ones, but i'm getting the same set in 8" lengths instead. Total cost: $15.50. Boyfriend's opinion: i'm spending too much money.  Roll Eyes

I have an irrational distrust of wooden needles. I don't know why, but I do. I'm so metal. (har har.)
Well you got a giggle out of me Wink  As for my fave–bamboo all the way.  Love the circs for big projects.

I'm a wooden needle snob. I won't use aluminum or plastic...I just don't like how it feels. I have a pair of rosewood needles on their way to me and I have never tried them..I'm super excited. I want to try the knitpick double pointed sock needle, the wooden set. I asked for it for xmas.  Cheesy

I'm the same way!  My mom gave me all of her old aluminum needles when she switched to crocheting, and I was so excited to get started knitting...but I hated the needles.  They always felt too cold and hard, and they actually hurt my hands (a function of how I hold the needle--I hold pretty tightly).  My husband got me several different sizes of the Clover bamboo needles and I haven't put them down yet!  I also cast on pretty tight, but I haven't had any problems with the needles holding up to my tight stitches (right now I'm working a double stranded project with 2 types of fuzzy yarn on needles that are a couple sizes smaller than what's called for for the thicker yarn, and yet the needles are hanging in there!).

I'm finally feeling confident enough to try circular needles (all mine are straights, but I have too many patterns that call for circular that I want to try), and I'm considering KnitPick's Harmony interchangeable needles.  If anyone can give me a review of them, I'd love to hear what you think!
