Here is completed flower A, accompanied by the almost complete flower B.

Insert the hook through one of the completed first double crochet stitches.  Now yarn over twice.

Now, just pretend flower A isn't attached, and start to do your treble crochet by putting the hook through the chain-3 loop.  You'll YO, pull through two orange loops, YO and pull through the next two orange loops.

Now you will have four loops left on the hook.  YO and draw through all the remaining loops, including the purple ones.

This is how it looks after you finish the first joining stitch.  Congratulations!

This is the hardest part to get right.  You will need to insert the hook into the next double crochet purple stitch on flower A.  It is important that you do it from the right direction, or your flowers will look twisted.  For me, it feels like I am putting the hook through the back and into the front.  I hope the picture helps with this part!

Here, you will YO once, and once again, pretend flower A isn't attached.  Insert it into the chain-3 loop on flower B, and go about your double crochet.  You'll YO, pull through two orange loops, YO and pull through the four remaining loops: one orange, two purple, one orange.

Now, simply finish off the petal on flower B as usual with one hdc and one sc.  Congratulations, you just joined your first two petals!

Do your sc and one hdc on the nect petal of flower B.  Now, you will do almost the same thing, but with the double crochet first, and the single crochet second.  Insert the hook into the first double crochet stitch on the next petal of flower A, YO and put the hook through the chain-3 loop, YO and pull through two orange loops, YO and pull through the remaining four loops: one orange, two purple, and one orange.  This image shows what it will look like once you've completed this stitch.

For the final joining stitch, you will once again insert the hook into the next double crochet stitch on flower A, again coming from the back side into the front.  Now, you will repeat the first joining stitch you did on the first petal.  YO twice, put the hook through the chain-3, YO and pull through two orange loops, YO and pull through two orange loops, and finally YO and pull through the remaining four loops: one orange, two purple, and one orange.  Finish your petal with dc, hdc, and sc.  Join with slip stitch to first sc and fasten off.  Congratulations, you just joined the first flowers of your garden scarf!  Hope this helps!

Thank you sooo much for posting these directions, and even with pictures! I was so lost so I was hoping to find something on-line that might help me. And this absolutely did, and it's coming along wonderfully now. I don't know if the directions were written strangely in the book or if I just couldn't understand them. Thank you very much though! You saved me!! Kiss

Thank you soooo much for posting these clear pictures.  Thought I was making it harder
than it seemed...which happens a lot.  Guess I'm more of a visual learner step by slow step! Smiley
