well souxie that is just wrong.  my hubby always make fun of me. i had a problem when i was a kid and some words still come out wrong.  his favorite breakfast.  i say bref-tist. and he also seems to think i have this southern/redneck twang.  i am from ny, 45 minutes from nyc. it is ok i get him right back for his queens (and boy does he have it) accent. this is bad, but when he is really upset about something it comes out even more and i just  start laughing.

Hubby says "mute" when he means "moot" and when I call him on it, it usually leads to a spat.  I've learned to just grit my teeth and bear it, but oh my goodness does it irritate!

This is one of the things I have in my WRBMA box (What Really Burns My ***).  I write down anything about my kids or hubby that annoy me inordinately, then put that paper in the box.  Once it gets full, I return the favour and burn it!  I've been married for just over 8 years, and have four stepkids + two full-time kids.  This measure has prevented me from going, as my Brit friends put it, totally 'round the bend.

When I was a kid, I used to have a very strong lisp. Whenever I tried to speak with a word that began with an s, or a word that had an s sound, I used to put my tongue to either side of my mouth but slightly to the front of my mouth, causing me to speak with the lisp and almost bit e my tongue off.  I had to go to speech therapy in school because it was so strong, and I would have spend an hour working on getting rid of the lisp. Over time, it was becoming less and less pronounced (I had a speech therapist that taught me to reprogram my brain and my speech into a different thinking and speaking pattern), and she even suggested that getting braces might help get rid of it. Sure enough, several years later, I got braces, and not only did they get rid of my overbite (which wasn't really bad, but it wasn't pronounced, either-it was a slight overbite-nothing that braces couldn't fix), but they improved my speech pattern. Sometimes, I do tend to lisp (I try to be conscious of it now more than ever), but I unconsuiouslly go into it. When I was in college, I majored in theatre, and every acting major had to take the basic voice course. This also helped improve my speech patterns and it helped me to become more and more aware of the fact that I used to have a lisp when I was a child. It helped me improve my s sounds even that much more. Today, I don't really speak with the lisp.
Most children often have a speech impediment. It's nothing to be self consouis of, but when they become adults, I think you become more aware of the fact that you had a speech impediment. Some adults still have their speech impediment. And it's nothing that speech therapy can help. Speech therapy can help improve your speech patterns.

I lived for a good bit of my childhood in Somerset where they really pronounce the 'r's.
I then moved to Wales, where everyone has a Cardiff accent and hardly pronounce the 'r's.
So I say "I'm a girrrl with a currrrrl in the worrrrld."
It makes me sound like a farmer, but I'm cool with that. I prefer my 'r's to no 'r's.

It's true that your accent can change overtime if you live in an area for a long period of time.
