back in January, I was diagnosed with depression. Sorry, I haven't talked about it on this board yet, but right now, I'm opening up about this.
I had a job as an appointment setter. A week later, I was fired. I simply didn't meet the sales goals right away. THey let me go, and I was the most emotional wreck ever. I called home and threatened to slit my wrists. I was engaging in self-harming behavior on and off for several years up until that point. That was the first time that I ever threatened to something suicidal. After I had a chance to calm down, I googled my county's mental health services. After ebing on the phone for an hour with them, I didn't qualfy for assistance. However, they set me up with a therapist in my area that would work on a sliding scale. I made my first appointment,
and off I went.
Cut to now, six months later, I'm doing fine. I've stopped going to therapy last month. I had a minor setback two weeks ago, but now, I'm fine. (Sucks having depression at times, because you never know when it will strike.)
What helped me get through it was knitting. I love it. I've joined a local stitch n' bitch. I'm volunteering more. I've even started a knitting business. I've had a job offer since then for a bilingual bank teller, but it fell throug (I speak Spanish).
I know I should have talked about his way earlier, but I've been busy lately.

I just started knitting, but already I've noticed how soothing it is.  I wish I'd had it back before I had my depression under control.

It's the one thing that keeps me going right now.

Yes, I agree!  I've noticed how soothing it is to knit.  I like to call it my "Zen Mode".   Wink Our minds actually go into a meditative state when we are completely focussed on something (ie: Painting, knitting, etc.)

Very therapeutic, and some of the colours that yarns come in can induce a calming effect as well.

i also noticed how relaxing knitting can be. i have a decent amount of stress in my life now from school, work, and thinking about college. then once i add the school musical to it... anyways, i'm glad knitting was able to help you with your depression. and by the way- hablo espanol tambien (sorry about the lack of accents and tildes, i can't find them on my keyboard)

That's okay. I can't figure out how to work them.
