A lot of the projects I want to make call for this yarn, but it's like $8 a ball. As someone starting out knitting it seems a little ridiculous to pay that much to pay a project that might be too difficult for me to finish. Anyone know of a suitable substitute? I've been looking at Lion Brand Wool-Ease, I know it won't have the same properties but do you think it would make a decent substitute?

I used to love this yarn and still do, just dont love the price.  Though i have found some screaming deals online......try littleknits.com or ravelry.com

For subs, I use patons classic merino available at Michaels or Joanns.  It goes on sale frequently and you can go online to get 30-50% off coupons for both stores.  Sometimes on joanns.com it will be as cheap as 3-4 bucks with buy 5 get free shipping.  mostly i buy at the store now bc of the coupons.  discontinued colors will go on sale for 2bucks.  Just bought 6skeins of teal blue for that price.

you have to be inventive, but there are ways to knit for cheap!  hope that helps!

I like to order from knitpicks.com or elann.com.  There are definitely some good deals!
