 Huh

Ok, I have a few questions, after reading through some of the posts on here and being almost done with the right warmer I am getting a little confused.

1- So I am almost done with the chart and the arm portion of the warmer. I am a little confused about how to finish the thumb section. I put the 13 stitches on the holder and have left them there while I finished the arm portion in the round as est. Is that correct? Do I then just bind off the arm portion and then go back to the thumb portion to finish that with 1 inch of ribbing and bind that off when I am done? It doesn't seem to give you proper direction for the thumb portion after you put the stitches on the holder.

2- After reading some posts I am now confused about reading the chart. I began with the right warmer and read the chart in the book from right to left, then for the left warmer I will do everything the same, except I will read the chart from left to right. Is that correct? I mean I can see some pattern in the way that I have done them now, but it is not as clear as some of the pictures I see on here. I used Noro and think it may be the yarn itself because it can be very chunky and then very thin througout the skein. Any comments, suggestions, anything?

I just can't wait for these to be done though! They look beautiful! Smiley
Thanks in advance!

Alright, so this is the right warmer. I read the chart right to left and went back to the thumb portion as I had mentioned, just guessed there! Let me know what you think.

So I realized that I totally missed the next page of instructions for the thumb section! DUH! LOL...I have it figured out, although I still think that the design portion of my warmer may not be right. Ah well, it is still pretty!

*lol* the HUS armwarmers....i went through all kinds of craziness with those, before finally deciding/having the "AHA!" moment/realizing that the yarn i was working with was better classified as a light worsted.

Yours look good though, Carrie--i really think that ultimately, Noro is probably the best yarn for these, since that is what was used when they were originally designed. I just don't have any Noro, so i haven't done them that way. Noro is known, amongst other things, for the irregularities in thickness, so that's normal.

A LOT of people have been confused by the chart for the armwarmers; you're not alone! But yes--when doing the right, read right to left, and when doing the left, read left from right. However, in order for the left to turn out correctly, you need to remember to work the mirror image of the cable crossings in the pattern. When you see \ \- work -/ / and vice versa. Same goes for the funky -\ \- and -/ /-  (those horizontal - should be diagonals, but i can't do that too well here).  The only ones you don't have to mirror image, or work the opposite, are the knit, purl, m, -/\- and the >|< and >< stitches.

Otherwise your cables will cross in the wrong direction. That's the problem a lot of people run into, and somethign the book isn't very clear on--and is the reason so many people resort to making a mirror image copy of the pattern, and then work that the same way they worked the first--right to left.

Thanks for the support!  Grin I really appreciate it. I am almost done with the left one and will post pictures of the completed pair soon. I really love how they are looking though, and I already got a few requests to make some for my friends! Thanks again and Happy Knitting!
