Help with the Cabled Chapeau

I've been trying to work the brim of the cabled chapeau pattern from the www.stitchnationyarn.com.

Has anyone tried to follow the pattern? The brim doesn't look right when I finish. Any tips?

I am having trouble with that part of the pattern as well. Comes out loped sidded. I have been looking for another brim pattern just so I can get this cap finshed before winter is over.
