I checked out The Wool and the Floss in Grosse Pointe today.  Grosse Pointe is just northeast of Detroit.  Excellent selection, laid back atmosphere.  Tons of Noro and lots of Collinette Yarn (yummy).  They seemed have a little bit of everything. Pricey, but what shop isn't?  When I walked in,there were some mature ladies knitting, but they were so friendly, I didn't feel out of place.

The best part is it's less than ten minutes from my work - dangerous.

Out by me (Lake Orion) I go to a little place in downtown - I can't remember the name, but the staff is helpful... it's a yarn and weaving store... Right on Flint Street off of Lapeer Rd.. another store I've driven by (but never stopped at :-( always too busy) is on Grange Hall Road between Holly and Fenton...
